Dawson Theatre: The Merchant of Venice, November 16
On 16 November. a small but congenial band of CUPARUC members met at Avesta, a Turkish restaurant near the Forum, for what was for some of us an esoteric (but for all of us a very enjoyable) supper before walking to the Dawson Theatre to see a solid performance of The Merchant of Venice given by the graduating class of the College's theatre students. We joined the cast afterwards in joyous celebration of their work.
We're hoping to see a good crowd at the Centaur next semester (Wednesday,21 March, matimee) for The Game of Love and Chance, an English version of Marivaux's witty comedy Le Jeu de l'Ámour et du Hasard.

St. Henri Historial Walk: September 21
A dozen of us gathered in the early aftenoon to meet our guide, Robert Forand, at the Place St-Henri metro station What followed, under a blazing early autumn sun, was a leisurely stroll through what was once an industrial district, with row-houses of different style for the rich and for the working class. St-Henri has an abundance of small parks;we paused in two of them. out of the way of traffic rush. The house where the tówn's mayor once lived and Gabrielle Roy's one-time dwelling were special points of interest, as was the Art Deco style of the fire-station where the local historical society has rich archives. After more than two hours, we still had much to cover. Perhaps for another time?

A Night on the Town
On 16 November, more than twenty of us- a welcme mix of familiar faces and new retirees- met for an early supper Au Petit Extra on Ontario St. near Papineau before heading to the Lion d'Or cabaret next door. A long table had been reserved for us at the back of the restaurant, allowing us to chat back and forth through the surrounding buzz aa the room filled up. The chalkboard menu was inviting anf the food delicious, pleasantly washed down with a respectable house wine.
At 7:30, we moved next door to a series of reserved tables near the stage at the Lion d'Or where the popular chanteuse Danielle Oddéra gave us a passionate rendering of Jacques Brel songs, accompanied on piano by Jean Marchand (who was also in great voice). Altogether, a delightful night on the town!

Easter Island Exhibit at the Pointe-à-callières Museum
On October 20, a pleasant early autumn day, a dozen CUPARUC members and family met for lunch in the attractive restaurant at the Musée Pointe-à- Callière Others joined us later to tour the Museum's current exhibit, devoted to Easter Island. Our guide, obviously enthusiastic about the show, led us past a rare and remarkable collection of artefacts,explaining how the pieces on display have helped scholars to demystify much of the political, economic and religious evolution of this remote and isolated island in the mid-Pacific. An altogether enjoyable as well as enlightening afternoon!
